Africa Day at Chengelo Primary
Chengelo Primary celebrated Africa Day donning all colours and styles of Chitenge – in keeping with our dress code “a dash of Chitenge”. The day kicked off with the Djembe Club wowing us with a stellar accompaniment to Salif Keita’s 1995 hit song “Africa”. After assembly every child had the opportunity to attend African based round-robin activities. We had so much fun painting, playing Ciyenga, attempting an Africa trivia, learning about Cikanda, preparing ‘sweetie-mbalala’, cracking hieroglyphic codes and walking to freedom in a mystery trail that unraveled the African struggle for liberation.
We then enjoyed a fantastic picnic lunch where we sampled different foods from across the African continent. The foods reflected the 2022 Africa Day theme “The Year of Nutrition”. We got to taste jollof rice, goat soup, fisashi, nshima and even some South African delicacies.
After a short rest, we took part in a “How Many Elephants” workshop which highlighted the value of conservation and the role we all have to play in keeping these magnificent creatures safe. After this we enjoyed our tuck and took time to play, the day ended with a fun filled African animation shown to the boarding children. Thank you to all the primary teachers and the kitchen staff for making our day so memorable.
