World Environment Day
‘Posie’ the Pod Mahogany, has been planted on the Primary Campus by our Grade 2 and 3 class, who have three good reasons to plant this tree.
1. To follow in the footsteps of Mama Miti, the woman of trees who became the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, and inspired more than 30 million trees to be planted in her native Kenya.
2. To mark World Environment Day on the 5th of June with something tangible.
3. Lastly, as members of the Commonwealth, it seemed appropriate that we use an opportunity to contribute to the ‘Queens Green Canopy’ campaign, as part of her 70th Jubilee celebrations!
The pupils enthusiastically helped our two groundsmen to plant ‘Posie,’ and the children will now be responsible for caring for this tree.
